| I don't want this to be one of those threads that reads like the viewing gallery to an autopsy. The site isn't dead, it's in suspended animation. People aren't posting. In part, this is my fault. In large part, in fact. Enormously, overwhelmingly large part. "That's no moon" proportions. My Homeric struggles at work being known to everyone by now, and with no rosy-fingered dawn in sight, but my will to RP none diminished, I'd like to think of some way to accommodate my limited availability. And Adam's somewhat limited availability. And Jamie's limited availability/interest. And people just becoming busy for a few days, going on vacation, etc. It's not all my fault!
In the past, we could shrug off these disruptions. But we need to acknowledge now that we're working under extreme limitations; namely, there are so few of us that we're all equally indispensable to any of the large storylines and any one person's absence grinds the RP to a halt. I have an idea how to address this, but I welcome all of your ideas too (preferably not "Uh... maybe people should just post?" because that's not terribly helpful).
My idea is this: fewer large storylines with long-term character arcs encompassing many threads and involving many people, and instead a more episodic nature to the RP with short-term characters in specific situations. Case in point: the Abrion Sector campaign. I would love to have a long-term, sector-wide campaign with lots of Imperial and Rebel characters. Admirals, Generals, Rebel spies, Inquisitors—in the past, we could do that. These days, I think threads with a large number of people involved must be avoided like the plague. My version would have a couple of battles among 2 or 3 previously agreed-upon participants to determine the course of the larger campaign. That way, we don't have the current situation where 5(ish?) characters are all waiting on Admiral Tarkona*.
It'd be quick, fun, and good for those character ideas we all have from time to time (such as pilots, droids, bartenders, stormtroopers, or bounty hunters) who maybe aren't well-suited to a long-term character arc but would still be fun to RP. No, I'm not saying we should kill off Karth DeQora, Aaron Rawls, or Alyn Stark. By all means, people should continue to develop their long-standing characters. But I think the RP would be more fun, fresh, and resilient if we also had more dispensable characters we can RP on more of a short-term basis.
I got the idea indirectly from Star Wars: Aftermath author and huge asshole Chuck Wendig, who has "interludes" in Aftermath, a chapter at a time with characters and events that have nothing to do with the main plot or characters of the book. In a novel, that's some weird, frustrating Italo Calvino shit. But in RP I think the change of pace could work nicely. What do you guys think?
( * Not that it's specifically Tarkona's fault—my point is that it's not a burden any one person should have to carry. I haven't been any better myself, holding up the Aphelion storyline with my lack of posting. )

| A hypothetical example: A spaceport cantina on Atzerri, 4 characters. A Jedi (character 1) is attempting to negotiate passage off Atzerri. Someone recognizes him/her and informs a duo of stormtroopers (characters 2 and 3), who must plan how to make the arrest. Meanwhile, a bounty hunter (character 4) has tracked the Jedi to Atzerri and must capture him/her before the stormtroopers do in order to collect on the bounty. Or perhaps the bounty hunter has an agenda all his/her own?
Lots of fun, not too many people, wouldn't last too long. And if one of the characters dies, it's no big deal; they're just short-term characters (and if they survive and go on to other threads? Hey, even better). Think of it sort of like RP from the MSN Chat days, except on a forum. What do you think, hypothetical, ideally real person who I hope is reading this?

| I think at this point anything is worth trying, and it seems like a solid enough idea.

| Mmm RP Added (05 Nov 2015, 1:38 PM) --------------------------------------------- Also, you could probably actually use your existing characters. If the stories are tailored to be one shot quickies it'd provide interesting experience.

| Exactly. My personal preference would be for more short-term (I hesitate to use the term "throw-away," but let's say "dispensable") characters, because 1.) I'd be more willing to let those characters die, which is probably best for these short-duration RPs, and 2.) it would provide more new, fresh characters for myself and others to RP with, which feels important with so few of us. Sometimes it feels like everyone has their 2 or 3 characters that we're all playing musical chairs with, so that we're mostly seeing the same few characters all the time just in a different order. But yes, one could still use their regular characters in these "interludes," "mini-RPs," or whatever we call them.

| Thanks, you two. Maybe the three of us can do something along these lines. Looks like nobody else is really into the idea though, which is fine—I don't want to make people do something they don't want to do. And I'm open to other ideas, as I said. But I don't think we can continue "business as usual" because it's been 10 days and 62% of us haven't posted any ideas on this thread, or given any indication of having even read it, or posted in any thread in the last couple weeks. I suppose we could just continue on like this until Episode 7 comes out and hope that encourages people to RP again, but I really want to RP and it'd be a shame to wait that long.

| As I said, people don't want to do it. Whether they've expressed that here, in Skype or elsewhere, or implicitly by silence—I get it. And it's fine. It was just an idea.

| Sorry folks!
I've been busy. It's been a shitty few months. Wife in a car accident. In and out of hospitals myself for being sick and some PTSD issues. National Guard drills. Full time school. Full time work. In short, my fellow Star Warsians, it's sucked a serious cock of death.
That isn't to say I don't check in here, and I'm actually rather fond of Jace's idea. In fact, I'd go so far as to say I'd actually play and be involved in that idea if other folks are willing to do the same! Quote Jace_Varitek ( ) A hypothetical example: A spaceport cantina on Atzerri, 4 characters. A Jedi (character 1) is attempting to negotiate passage off Atzerri. So yes. I am here. I am (not) queer. I am in with this idea. Let's do it.

| Hell yeah. The second part, that is. (The first part not so much).
I actually thought a lot about Treylon Voss vs. the NRI team on Tatooine when I was thinking up this idea. That was a really fun RP, and another example of the kind of "mini-RPs" I'm proposing.
Poor Treylon. Gotta watch out for those E-Webs.
(More seriously though, I'm sorry to hear what you've been going through. My whole point with this idea is that people get busy or they go through various shitty things because life is shitty, and that's fine; the idea is to try to take the burden off people so they can deal with what's happening in their personal lives without any guilt about holding up the RP. I think this would be a lot of fun, but you're also really busy so there's no rush; hit me up on Skype whenever and we can put some ideas together).

| Any further progress on this? Added (18 Dec 2015, 2:33 PM) --------------------------------------------- Well I've seen the film, I won't say anything, don't want to spoil the experience for any one. But for real, one thing is certain, I'm definitely in the mood to RP now. XD

| The plot was a bit too familiar, but the characters/dialogue and overall feel makes this movie one of my favorites, right up there hovering around ANH and Empire.

| I've seen it twice. Going again on Christmas with my dad. And again on New Years with my non-Star Wars loving bestie, and her husband....who loves Star Wars as much as I do.
