    Information-

Introduced late in the war in 17 BBY, what Kuat Drive Yards' Breakthrough-class lacked in timing, it made up for in versatility and cutting-edge technology. Designed to serve with and supplement other vessels capable of long-range communications and to break jamming, it was revolutionary in that the on-board equipment allowed it to act as a mobile subspace relay station and with its specialized hyperwave transceiver, could even work as a mobile hyperwave relay. Ships still serving within the Imperial Navy have been refit recently with upgraded engines and the capacity to carry a squadron of fighters, increasing its defensive capacity.

Using an Imperial defense contract to copy several design concepts of KDY, Rendili and Hoersch-Kessel teamed up to creat the Growler-class in the hopes of renewing slumping sales, as well as in ending continued stigma on the part of Hoersch-Kessel. It's design was radically changed from the initial design over the course of its development. Original a simple ship in similar appearance to the Imperial Escort Carrier with a massive communications array attached to both sides of the hull, the decision was made to transform the design into a Star Destroyer late in the developmental period. The result is a far more capable vessel than initial planned.

The Growler-class is considered the complete package, capable of the full spectrum of electronic warfare: attack, protection, and support; in addition to its duties as a communications vessel. It's operations can be amplified with the fitting of two communications/electronic warfare suite arrays to either side of the hull; retaining a feature of the original design that had already been developed, but not made standard for diverse operations capability.

While not designed for direct combat, it can maintain its own in any situation. It has a sizable fighter complement to protect it from external threats, a sizable ground troop complement to deal with boarding attempts, and an impressive weapons arrays to discourage smaller capital ships from attempting attacks upon it. This combination allows it to operate as an independent vessel when necessary, but it is recommended that it remain in a fleet environment.

    Description
Diligent-class cruisers were built on the same 600-meters frame as the Immobilizer 418 cruiser, Enforcer-class Cruiser and Vindicator-class heavy cruiser after naval architects removed the massive power generators from an Immobilizer 418 cruiser and discovered that by re-arranging the vessels power grids, they could significantly enhance the ship's communications arrays, electronic warfare, sensor range, shields, and tractor beams. Even the engines experienced a bonus from this reconfiguration. The end result was a very fast and maneuverable vessel for it's length which has a communications and sensor array equivalent to a Super Star Destroyer in it's power consumption.

The Computer suite onboard is the precursor of that used in the later Allegiance-class. The Diligent-class has the advantage of resembling a greatly feared grav-well interdictor ship which meant that enterprizing Bothan Spynet Ships and Rebel Slicers are keen to avoid a close up look.

The ship also carries a squadron of Scout craft which are optimized for carrying any message/cargo in the event of an emergeny, investigating problems with communications relays and beacons etc; which suits the ship's use as an Auxilliary cruiser to look after deep space comms and sensor assets when they're in need. Also, the ship is often seen accompanying Imperial Taskforces who require a constant holonet real time uplink anywhere in the Galaxy.

The Diligent-class was eventually replaced by the Allegiance-class battlecruiser, but continued to see sporadic use in the Imperial Navy as late as 3 ABY.
