Other Information While living at the Resistance base on D'Qar, he maintains an estate on Corellia which he uses as a safehouse.
Background Born within a spartan cult in the wilderness of Corellia, like many of the Karath before him since the foundation of the Galactic Republic in 1,000 BBY, his life was early on one of warfare. His father, who served in the Senate Guard at the time of his birth, taught him the way of the Judicial Forces and the Senate Guard. His mother, a Republic Intelligence operative, also graced him with her skill set. With this upbringing amidst a culture which emphasized self-reliance and minimal living, the military was the only right path for him.
In the outbreak of the Clone Wars, he enlisted to join the birth-born Republic Army, which was slowly reforming as a defensive force while the clone Grand Army of the Republic did the majority of the fighting. He distinguished himself when and where he could nonetheless as a combat engineer, and was a Sergeant at the time of the war's end. His missions included an attempt to bring an end to the civil wars in the Sepan, Virgillian, and Balith systems, the Republic invasions of Muunilinst, Dac, Thule, and Hypori, the fighting on Rhen Var, the defense of Brentaal, and the Siege of Jabiim.
Following the conclusion of the Clone Wars and the formation of the Galactic Empire, he carried his service over to the Imperial Army. Suddenly thrust into a combat role with the restructuring the Grand Army of the Republic, he was part of the Imperial Army's contribution to the Western Reaches campaigns under Admiral Tarkin, including participation in the Antar Atrocity.
After the Western Reaches campaigns concluded, he was assigned to Sentinel Base once he had completed training as a Stormtrooper. It was a quiet assignment, during which he attempted to learn from other veterans, including clones, as much as he could in regards to martial arts, tactics, and strategy. Following the attack on the base, once security was restored, he proceeded to go through officer candidate school.
Now a commissioned officer at the age of 27, he went about ensuring those under his command were in the best shape and readiness he could achieve. Over the course of his career, he found that the Empire was lacking a key surface combat element; special forces. While they indeed had the Stormtrooper Corps, there was need for a scalpel at times instead of a sword. He began petitioning, to nearly anyone that would listen, about the need for a return of Special Forces to the galactic military. The galaxy needed it's ARC Troopers once more, but those in power disagreed greatly, and a noisy young officer shouting for radical military reform was not something many indulged.
Quickly, he found himself shipped off to a backwater posting on the planet Lothal. While the world allowed him rapid ascendance in the ranks, due to his competence and the astounding lack of it on the part of the forces stationed there, he came to dispise the top officers on the planet, Commandant Aresko and Taskmaster Grint of the Lothal Imperial Academy.
During this period of his life, he ended up marrying a fellow Stormtrooper officer who was also Corellian and stationed on the Lothal; Zindra Revel. During the course of their joint stationing on Lothal, they had two children and had what seemed to many to be the ideal Imperial family. Unfortunately, everything was not ideal; Zindra had a bad drug and alcohol addiction which exacerbated her psychological illnesses. It was this problem which landed Zindra on Lothal, and it was her powerful father, an ISB official and Admiral in the Clone Wars, who kept her in the service. On one fateful night, the Zindra's dark side was revealed in a dramatic display at the Academy which led to her discharge from Imperial service and forced rehabilitation and psychological treatment, as well as his divorce from her and gaining full custody of their children.
A few weeks after his divorce from his wife, the Lothal rebel cell began its activity, which he attempted to stop only to be hindered by the ineptitude of the troops under his command and those in command of him. When Grand Moff Tarkin came to the planet to bring things under order, he wasted no time in approaching his former commander. His meeting with Tarkin ended with his reassignment to the Stormtrooper Legion aboard the Sovereign. He was aboard the ship when it crashed on Mustafar, making it to the surface in an escape pod, unable to make it to a transport due to the damage to the ship.
He was able to survive on the volcanic surface of Mustafar by leading what survivors he could into the remains of the old Separatist base. After being picked up by the orbiting fleet, he returned to Lothal where he was promoted to Brigadier General, and later granted command of the 1,001st Legion on Anaxes. As the Galactic Civil War heated up into full force, various deployments lead to a steady rate of promotion, and growing legitimacy to his voice. Eventually his push for special forces was finally listened to and he was given command of the initiative which was overseen by Crix Madine.
Drawing from from what information he had on the Clone Commandos and ARC Troopers, as well as historical special forces units, he developed a training regimen which combined these various aspects into a singular unit. Initially called the Special Actions Group during its formative period, SAG quickly become known as something else; the Storm Commandos. It was not until after the destruction of the Death Star however that the Storm Commandos were ready for field deployment, but they became one of the busiest forces at the Empire's disposal thanks to the overwhelming support of their mission by Grand General Cassio Tagge.
With a secondary mission of obtaining and protecting advanced technology for the Empire, as well as testing it, the Storm Commandos became a feared unit within the Imperial war machine. He was subjected to several cybernetic implants as part of their testing mission, which enhanced his mental abilities (giving him perfect memory and instant recall), enhanced his physical abilities (increasing his strength and reflexes), and enhanced his targeting abilities. He found himself constantly bothered however by the destruction of Alderaan. A crackdown on dissent, regime change, a display of force; it was all acceptable to him. The destruction of an entire planet and the wholesale execution order for two billion people was a jarring moment for him. He had seen the depths to which the Empire would go to maintain control and force fear upon the residents of the galaxy, and it was something that he was uncomfortable with. Soon he began to question every order, past and present, and saw that he had added to this machine and that he was an integral part of it.
After some preparation, he began to contact the Rebel Alliance under the codename Midnight Sun. His messages allowed the Alliance to rescue a group of scientists on Bestine, raid a cache of planetary shields on Ralltiir, stop the assassination of a high level Alliance cabinet member, capture a technology and supply cache from a space station, gain the schematics to the Imperial II-class Star Destroyer, steal technology from the Corporate Sector, and stop Imperial reprisals against citizens of Tatooine. The effect he had was devastating to Imperial forces, and helped the Alliance gain the upper hand for a time in the Galactic Civil War. Ultimately, he was uncovered, and he called the Alliance to Sullust, where he was stationed to defend the production facilities under construction.
On Sullust, he was going to final defect, however the Empire was aware of his efforts and set up a trap. Darth Vader made a surprise inspection of the construction efforts on the SoroSuub Centroplex, just before the beginning of the Alliance raid. A large starfighter and surface battle broke out within the Centroplex, and when he could, he turned on his own men. The Storm Commandos were devastated in the fighting, operating under conflicting or poor orders which led to several compromising tactical and strategic blunders or even friendly fire incidents. In the chaos, he attempted to flee, only to be stopped by Darth Vader personally. After a brief fight, he was held in a Force Choke by the Dark Lord, saving himself only by activating the thermal detonator on his armor and throwing it at the Sith. The brief interruption allowed him to escape and board his TIE Hunter which joined the Rebel starfighters in their fighting retreat from the world.
Following his defection, and healing, he met with Admiral Ackbar. He was being given the rank of Major, and tasked with forming a team of the best special operations personnel the Alliance had, which would serve at the Supreme Commander's immediate command. The team was named Alpha Red, and they began to undertake the most challenging and serious of missions the Alliance required. He would be present on Hoth, assisting in the defense of the base before being evacuated, during which he was nearly captured by Imperial forces. He was ultimately one of the leading Alliance liaisons to the Bothans who stole the plans for the Second Death Star and helped his old mentor, General Crix Madine, develop the plan of attack.
Following the formation of the New Republic, he was promoted to Colonel and transitioned to a line command, as Alpha Red was disbanded. He led a regiment of troops at the Battle of Jakku, where he was wounded fighting with his men. His wound required the replacement of his left arm with a cybernetic replacement. Following the signing of the Galactic Concordance and the passage of the Military Disarmament Act, he was left without a job. The military was all he had known for his entire life. He eventually chose to reunite with the Alpha Red team, which formed a mercenary company known as the Starbirds. They proceeded to travel the Rim, taking down Imperial renegades and helping defend innocents where possible, hoping to bring some justice to the most lawless areas of the galaxy.
It was a losing fight however for the Starbirds, as they found themselves unable to sustain operations due to the demands from a lacking New Republic response to the various crises faced by the galaxy. Eventually, he came into contact with some old friends. He was recruited in a castle turned cantina on the planet Takodana into the Resistance. He joined the command staff of the Resistance, helping form their Special Forces and train general personnel in combat. It is a role he has carried on now for fifteen years. Despite several attempts, he refused to accept a promotion to the rank of General, believing he is undeserving of the honor due to the blood he shed as a General for the Empire, and that Leia Organa is the only General the Resistance needs. He has recently come to face personal crisis, as his daughter was murdered in the Jedi Massacre, and his son remains steadfastly loyal to the New Republic, leaving him without contact with his only surviving family member.
