Information:
Zayd has lived through a period of monumental change in the galaxy that has seen him rise from the Crown Prince of a provincial kingdom on Falleen to become King of the entire planet. Belonging to the ruling House Shahir of the Umayr Kingdom on Falleen when the planet fell to the Confederacy of Independent Systems in 22 BBY, Zayd and his family were forced into exile, and the family vineyard was burned, for refusing to support the Separatist cause or purchase Confederate war bonds. Taking up residence with a family friend on Coruscant during the war, Zayd studied at the University of Coruscant where he was involved in the anti-Jedi "People's Inquest" movement. Later, in 19 BBY, volunteered his knowledge of Falleen to Military Intelligence to assist in the liberation of his homeworld.

In the years following the Clone Wars, House Shahir returned to Falleen and Zayd focused on rebuilding the economy of the Umayr Kingdom. He is widely credited for the post-war economic boom known as "the Umayr miracle." In 10 BBY, in a sign of House Shahir's growing power on Falleen, Zayd was chosen to represent the planet in the Imperial Senate. Three years later, in 7 BBY, the escape of a flesh-eating bacteria from an Imperial research lab on Falleen resulted in the destruction of House Sizhran in an Imperial bombardment of the planet. Sensing opportunity, Zayd did not seek re-election to the Senate and instead returned the following year to Falleen, where House Shahir had replaced Sizhran as the dominant political force on the planet. With the support of his family and the Empire (as a Senator, he had been known for his support of the Empire), Zayd was named King of Falleen in 5 BBY.

His rule, however, remains fragile. Falleen is known for its feudal politics in which noble houses joust for control. House Shahir, although the most powerful on the planet, is still but one of many. Zayd has followed the example of Emperor Palpatine in having Falleen nobles compete with one another for his favor. He has imitated Palpatine in other ways, too—such as the establishment of a secret police service, dominated by House Shahir and known for its brutality against would-be opponents on Falleen and elsewhere. Prince Xizor, one of the most powerful beings in the galaxy and a survivor of House Sizhran, is one such opponent. But an uneasy truce exists between Xizor and Zayd, with each of them knowing that a war between Black Sun and Zayd's secret police would be destructive to them both. By unspoken agreement, each stays out of the other's respective arenas; politics on Imperial Center for Xizor, and politics in the Doldur Sector for Zayd.

Zayd, meanwhile, remains popular among the people of Falleen for bringing the economic practices of "the Umayr miracle" to the entire planet and for his patriotic appeals for the greatness of the Falleen species. He is aware, however, that a Falleen supremacist agenda can only be advanced so far under the Human-centric Empire, and he has compensated for this by being deferential to the Empire, continuing to permit Imperial bio-chemical weapons labs across the planet, waiving taxes on Human investment on Falleen, and appearing to be zealously "anti-rebel." Privately, however, Zayd desires more autonomy for his world and its isolationist people, and has begun to contemplate whether or not the Rebellion, following the destruction of the Death Star in 0 ABY, could possibly succeed. Having lived more than 100 years by choosing his sides carefully, Zayd is sure to observe galactic events with a shrewd eye in the days and months to come.
