Name: Jak Merston Age: 32 years old Height: 6'0" Weight: 225 lbs. Homeworld: Onderon
Affiliation: Imperial Stormtrooper Corps (formerly), Smuggler/Rebel Alliance (currently) Weapon(s): 2 WESTAR-34 blaster pistols, 1 DC-17m ICWS, 1 combat knife Ship: YT-1300 freighter (some modifications) dubbed Personal Redemption Crewmember(s): Lynx (gungan co-pilot)
Background/History: Jak was born on Onderon to an Onderonian military officer and a local-level politician. He grew up learning the military stuffs such as tactics, shooting, and flying as well as laws and how to beat them. When he was young, his father was a part of the Onderonian resistance against Separatist occupation during the Clone Wars. They had to remain hidden due to the fact his father was rebelling against the droid army. Once the Separatists withdrew, Onderon was back into the Republic's hands. By the time he was old enough to enlist, the Galactic Republic was reorganized into the Galactic Empire. It had been his, as well as his parents', dreams to contribute to a safe and secure society. Jak would enlist into the Imperial Academy on Onderon, and graduated among the top half of his class. Instead of going into the regular Imperial Army, he was commissioned into the Stormtrooper Corps due to his military and logical abilities. His dream was coming true. However, it wasn't what he envisioned. The elite stormtrooper, under the orders of his superiors, had committed numerous atrocities. He had beaten harshly and killed a lot of sentient beings. Houses were burned down, valuables were being stolen to finance the Imperial war machine. Cities were being bombarded from space. Thus, civilian casualties were high at times. The non-humans were subject to harsher treatment than human, not because of his personal hatred but because of the humanocentric society the Empire possess. He began to feel remorse, and his conscience began to speak. Jak had approached his parents about this, and were quickly dismissed as well as being told to ignore his conscience. He did so for the time being, but it couldn't stay quiet for long. This is how he turned to alcohol and smoking marcan herbs in form of cigarettes in attempt to dull the pain. One day, Jak would be fighting the local resistance cells on Naboo. They were fighting door to door, street to street. The rebels were driven back, but there were a very few pockets that blended with the civilian population. His squad, along with an officer, would do a house-to-house inspection. A gungan was among a family of old people, young women, and young children. They were rounded up into a room, and the officer ordered them to be executed. The family seemed to be innocent, and had nothing to do with taking the gungan in. Even if they did, they were simple people and had no means to fight. Jak couldn't take it, so he moved behind the line of formation and shot at his squad before they would execute. He managed to kill all of them, but the officer had wounded him in the process. The Onderonian would have died if it wasn't for the gungan killing the officer first. Wounded, the gungan carried him to Otoh Gunga to be healed. Once he did, the gungan and Jak promised each other that they would look out for each other like some exchange of life debts. His dream was finished, and he turned into a smuggler as well as joining the rebellion in making amends for what he had done to the people.
