Name: Lyman Sturn Homeworld: Chandrila Species: Human Born: 41 BBY
Height: 1.82 Meters Weight: 174 Lbs. Eyes: Black Hair: Black
Force Sensitive: Yes
Affiliation: The Galactic Empire Rank/Title: Inquisitor
(Former) Affiliation: The Jedi Order (Former) Ranks/Titles: - Jedi Master
- Jedi Diplomat
- Jedi Artisan
Force Powers: - Force Sight (Proficient)
- Life Detection/Life Sense (Proficient)
- Fear (Above-Average)
- Sense Force (Above-Average)
- Meditation (Above-Average)
- Field Detection (Average)
- Resistance (Average)
(Former/Atrophied) Force Powers: - Healing (Below-Average)

Lightsaber Combat Forms: - Makashi (Average)
- Soresu (Above-Average)
- Ataru (Average)
Vehicle: Vigil-class corvette Destiny, Sentinel-class landing craft Weapon(s): Several custom-built, artisan lightsabers
Strengths: - He is extraordinarily perceptive. Having endured years of sensory deprivation, he has developed the ability to see with the Force and to sense people, things, and events more vividly than most Jedi. "My eyes were open," he says of his Jedi years, "but I didn't see."
- He is able to sense a person's deepest fears, and exploit them. Sturn has cultivated his former Force Empathy ability into Force Fear, the ability to promote a sense of discomfort, fear, or even horror in an opponent.
Weaknesses: - He has lost his ability to relate to others, is not good at predicting his opponent's moves, and is easily frustrated by "irrational" behavior.
- His skill with a lightsaber is only average.
- The sight of Clone and Stormtrooper armor makes him feel uncomfortable, associating these "bone-white visages of death" with his nervous breakdown on Aargonar. He may find it harder to concentrate in the presence of stormtroopers.
Background: Under the tutelage of a peace-loving Ithorian master, the ever-patient and compassionate Lyman Sturn trained for most of his life to be a Jedi Diplomat, believing that the maintenance of the peace was the highest purpose for a Jedi and disapproving of the Guardian class—especially Weapons Masters and so-called Jedi "brutes." With the outbreak of the Clone Wars, however, there was no peace. There was no diplomacy. And the Jedi were now called upon to serve as Generals. Sturn did his part reluctantly, serving capably in the Outer Rim Seiges, being promoted to Master in the second year of the war. But years of war took their toll on the once-idealistic Sturn; in the months-long battle for the desert world of Aargonar, Sturn is reputed to have lost his mind, lashing out violently at the clones under his command in an apparent suicide attempt. Sturn was subdued by his fellow Jedi, his mind in turmoil, and placed under the guard of Antarian Rangers on the remote world of Valc VII. He would say nothing for himself for the remainder of the war.
But the end of the war did not end his imprisonment. Some years later, when Imperial forces attempted to use Valc as a staging point for its war with the Kaleesh on nearby Oben, they encountered unexpected resistance from the Antarian Rangers, ever-dutiful to the Jedi Order. Sturn was freed, but when questioned by Imperial forces he still would say nothing, appearing to be in deep meditation. He spent another year in solitary confinement on a Purgatory-class prison ship housing many political prisoners of the Empire, including a high-profile Drackmarian warlord. When the ship was ambushed by Drackmarian rebels in the Quelii Sector, Sturn—released from his confinement in the chaos—surprised his captors by turning on his would-be liberators, repulsing the Drackmarian boarding party almost single-handedly. Despite a numerical advantage, many of the large, physically-formidable Drackmarians were reputed to have run in sheer terror from the pike-wielding Human who had become frail and blind from his years of imprisonment, able to see only through the Force. When at last he spoke for the first time in years, the blood-drenched Sturn's voice was little more than a hoarse whisper: "Take me to Vader."
Among the Empire's Jedi-hunting Inquisitors, Sturn stood apart. He was thoughtful, patient—and ruthless. He captured and personally tortured Felanil Baaks, the elderly, kind-hearted Duros Jedi who, years before, had taught Sturn to be a Jedi Artisan. Baaks yielded to Sturn the location of 'Mother' Missira, a former teacher at the Almas Academy. Using the Force to ravage the old Tarasin woman's mind, Sturn learned of many Force-sensitive Tarasins on the planet Cularin, some of them Jedi, but many of them simply non-political, Force-sensitive individuals, innocent even by Imperial standards. Sturn hunted them all, as if at war with the Force itself. When Sturn requested that Cularin be destroyed, the over-zealous Inquisitor was ordered to stay out of the system. He reluctantly complied, visiting the libraries of Alpheridies, the homeworld of the blind Miraluka species, to hone the powerful extra-sensory abilities he had developed in his years of sensory deprivation.
Sturn developed a partnership of sorts with his fellow Inquisitor, Jerec, learning many of the Miralukan sensory techniques directly from him. Together, the duo captured the fugitive Jedi Rees Alrix on Sullust. But Sturn then turned on Jerec, trying and failing to kill the far more powerful Inquisitor. Commonly-believed to be a dispute over who deserved credit for the capture of Alrix, Sturn insisted that it was because Jerec was "a threat." How exactly, he would not say. Sensing that there was some indecipherable method to Sturn's madness, Vader spared him from Jerec's wrath, but the Dark Lord privately began to harbor doubts about Sturn's motives. Perhaps detecting Vader's apprehension, Sturn maintained a lower profile until the Battle of Yavin.
The destruction of the Death Star was taken as a sign to the Jedi of the galaxy that now was the time to finally come out of hiding and rise up against the Empire. The Inquisitors, including Sturn, now find themselves busier than they've been in years, hunting for such Jedi as Karth DeQora and Daneira Farris, Castor Vax, the Noghri weapons master R'khakh, and of course the ever-elusive Yoda and Obi-wan Kenobi. But in hunting for these Jedi, is Sturn serving the interests of the Empire, or his own?
Personality As a young Jedi Diplomat, Sturn was known for his seemingly infinite patience and his deep well of empathy for others. He was also notoriously charming and had many friends at the Jedi Temple. The Clone Wars had a profound impact on him, however. He emerged from his nervous breakdown and his years of imprisonment a man seething with quiet anger, consumed by his mad philosophy, and having lost his ability to relate to others. He still has many traits of a diplomat, however; unlike most Dark Jedi, he is not quick to anger. He is patient and prefers persuasion to coercion--but will not hesitate to commit acts of cruelty if necessary, and feel no remorse for having done so.
