Background:
Hyrum Bask is a First Order captain and self-purported Count of Serenno. Belonging to one of the lesser noble houses of Serenno, Hyrum was one of many male heirs of Olaf Bask, one of several failed attempts to produce a daughter to marry into the more prestigious House Malvern. Resented by his irascible father for much of his youth, Hyrum was nonetheless raised in opulence, well-educated and groomed for power, meant one day to marry a cousin in House Malvern. To further ingratiate House Bask to the Malverns, Olaf adopted the Malvern family's full-throated support of the Empire, a dangerously unpopular view on Serenno—a world that had been punished harshly for its complicity in the Separatist cause during the Clone Wars. Both houses would pay dearly for their Imperial sycophancy.

Hyrum was studying at the Raithal Academy when news of the Empire's defeat at Endor reached his homeworld. The recriminations were swift; the Malvern and Bask families murdered in a bloody, week-long purge, their fortunes plundered and only surviving heirs—namely Hyrum—pursued by assassins. He had no time to mourn, however, as the Empire, now on the brink of collapse, pressed him into service directly from the Academy. He participated in the Empire's ill-fated invasions of Naboo, where he was badly-wounded and captured by the so-called New Republic. He was convalescing in a medcenter on Naboo when he heard news of the Empire's defeat at Jakku and subsequent surrender. In this, the darkest moment of his life, reflecting on the loss of everything he had ever known, he vowed revenge—on the scheming noble houses of Serenno who murdered his family, and on the New Republic that had simply watched it happen. The Galactic Concordance was signed, but the war, for Hyrum, was not over.

For some years he plunged himself into the post-Jabba chaos of Hutt Space, lending his expertise to hastily-assembled Nikto, Cyborrean, and Klatooinian war fleets, gaining valuable experience against the remnants of the Hutt Cartel. Many years later, Bask has emerged as a Captain in the First Order, commanding an Imperial-era Star Destroyer, the Rathtar's Grasp, rumored to be on a secret mission from Supreme Leader Snoke himself—although he privately lusts for the day he can return to Serenno with the might of the First Order fleet.
