Ponc Gavrisom is the Representative of the Calibop diaspora in the New Republic Senate. Almost one hundred years of age, Gavrisom has witnessed decades of war that has displaced his species and forced the Calibop near to extinction. Having experienced the fall of the Old Republic, the rise and fall of the Empire, and the rise of the New Republic, Gavrisom is war-weary and brings the moral authority of a long-suffering species to his arguments for peace with the First Order. Without time to heal and recover, he argues, the galaxy could descend into a never-ending cycle of war. Gavrisom, thus, is a principled opponent of the Resistance, calling for Senate investigations into the New Republic military's widely-suspected but never-proven support for the self-styled "General" Organa and her warmongering devotees.

Like many of his species, Gavrisom is well-spoken in defense of his principles but is slow to action. His eloquence, however, has won him a devoted following in the Senate, where he is regarded as an elder statesman. He has the distinction of having been one of the negotiators and signatories to the Galactic Concordance on behalf of the New Republic, and is sometimes referred to as its "architect."
