| "I've spent most of my life fighting. For the first time in my life, I feel like I'm making more than a statement. I feel like I'm making a difference. That is why we cannot let any opportunity go to waste, so that all in the galaxy know: the Alliance is fighting for them."
Name: Jelatar'kona Core Name: Jela Tarkona Nickname: "Blue", The Blue Death, The Rutian Corsair Alias: Alask Kairn , Byt Komad, Yuned Ziveri Age: 48 Homeworld: Ryloth
Species: Twi'lek Gender: Male Height: 187.96 centimeters Weight: 90.72 kilograms Eyes: Brown Skin: Blue Blood Type: A+ Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Affiliations: Rebel Alliance Rank: Admiral
Vehicles: Acclamator-class Assault Ship Sundiver Weapons: DH-17 Blaster Pistol Clothing: Rebel Alliance military uniform.
Father: Byt'tar'kona - activist (deceased) Mother: Aola'jab - activist (deceased) Spouse: Alema'forte - spy (deceased)
Personality: Often quiet and thoughtful, he is known for resounding compassion towards those around him. He viewed his subordinates as his family, and acts as a father to all, having had his family taken away by the Empire. He is firm in his belief that every Imperial should be met with death, and will turn to any means to accomplish the eradication of the Empire and its minions across the galaxy, much to the shock of many around him. Despite those beliefs however, he refuses to commit what would be considered war crimes, out of fear of becoming the very enemy he seeks to destroy.
Background: Raised on Ryloth, his parents were among a small group of peaceful, revolutionary Twi'leks who wished to change their people's culture and society. As a youth he became notable for speaking out against Orn Free Taa and the corruption that continued to allow the oppression and enslavement of the Twi'lek people. While most "mainstream" views among the Twi'leks supported that since they lack a dominant space-faring aspect to their culture that enslavement preserves and continues their society, he maintained that the Twi'leks should take to stars as others have and begin a renaissance of Twi'lek culture and take a new position in galactic civilization; a view he continues to hold to this day.
When he proved too troublesome, and after leading several peaceful protests, he is sold into slavery after being kidnapped, being purchased by the sadistic and abusive Hutt lord Malum Jahibakti Novo, better known as Malum the Horrible. He was a rebellious and defiant slave, often attempting to kill Malum's guards or escape. While he was punished severely, Malum refused to kill him as he viewed him as entertaining.
After years in slavery, and nearly dying twice in the line of work, he is liberated by a group of mercenaries, who train him in combat and warfare. He proceeds to serve with throughout Hutt Space and the Outer Rim. He learned martial skills from the ex-Judicials who wished to right the galaxy's wrongs that the Republic couldn't, which no Twi'lek he knew possessed.
At the outbreak of the Clone Wars, he returned home to Ryloth following its occupation, forming his own resistance called Tarkona's Legion, separate and independent from Cham Syndulla's Twi'lek Freedom Fighters. Unlike the Freedom Fighters, the Legion attempted to form a legitimate, professional military force. The powers that be ensured that when the time came for Ryloth to be relieved by the Republic, that he and the Legion were viewed as a brewing coup against Senator Taa. When the Republic committed all of its aid to the Freedom Fighters, the Legion became the target of heavy Separatist focus, in an attempt to end a two-sided war.
Were it not for the war crimes committed against his people by the Separatists, he would have joined them following the liberation of Ryloth. Instead, he loaned what was left of the Legion to the Freedom Fighters in attempting to rebuild Ryloth. He would watch the Clone Wars with great interest, but was unable to choose a side to support. Despite the betrayal of the Legion by the Republic, he remained a supporter of the Jedi.
He found himself an early supporter of the Empire upon its formation, due to its centralized government, elevation of the military, and pledge to rid of the bureaucracy of the Republic. He was shocked however, when attempting to enlist into the military he was denied for not being Human or similar in appearance. Upon the discovery of the use of slaves by the Empire, and the death of his wife at the hands of the Empire, he worked with Syndulla in forming the Twi'lek Resistance. At first, he assisted by become a pirate in the Gaulus sector, earning the nickname "The Rutian Corsair". He then joined in the surface based guerrilla operations, and became well known for his ruthlessness towards the Imperials, earning another nickname of "The Blue Death".
Eventually, the Empire made a push on Ryloth and he was forced to flee, but continued his piracy activity throughout the galaxy until finally captured in the Corellian sector. The crew that captured him turned out to be Resistance sympathizers, and staged a daring escape for him which ended with him being linked up with the Mon Calamari Resistance, which he joined and was trained in naval tactics.
During a raid on an Imperial shipyard, he and a skeleton crew captured the Acclamator-class Assault Ship Sundiver, former flagship of Jedi Master Plo Koon. Feeling the ship no longer deserved to be serving in the Imperial Navy, he set out to recruit a crew from throughout the galaxy, becoming Captain of the ship, and using it to wage a guerilla naval war against the Empire independent of any particular resistance movement.
Upon the formation of the Rebel Alliance, he joined and began serving in the Rebel Fleet with the Sundiver. Finding himself having a true gift when it came to naval matters, he was quickly promoted up the ranks to Admiral. Following the Battle of Yavin, he has been assigned to gather a battle fleet to begin the Alliance's press upon the Empire in a more traditional war.
