Rawls blinked several times as he stared blankly at Ransom. This isn't what he had expected. "No, it's fine," he said to no one in particular, "It's just a guy covered in Rodian guts laughing like a maniac in the street. It's totally fine—not weird at all." By now, the bystanders (who, on Nar Shaddaa, were tolerant of a certain amount of spontaneous violence in the street) had continued walking past them, though many stared at Ransom as they did so. "Don't worry, it's not weird," Rawls assured a passing Wroonian, who shook his head and mumbled "Inkabunga!" as he moved on.

Rawls glanced around the street, as if looking for the joke that he missed. Then pretended to look at his wrist chrono. He was close to saying something to Ransom when the man finally seemed to get a hold of himself. But when Ransom told him about Mara, the blank stare returned to his face. "Mara Antares, Ransom," he said after a moment, "And here I thought you were done with your crazy time. If you need a minute, I can meet you back here later. Or we can go back to the part where you were going to 'ice' me. Honestly, I'd be up for it at this point."

He gave Rawls a hard slap on his shoulder. Still chuckling a little to himself. The seriousness of a few moments ago were absent at least from Ransom. Rawls' shock was perhaps to be expected, as was the denial. To be honest, were someone to tell him back when he first came onto the Aphelion follow Kijari's departure, he would end up marrying Mara, he would likely feel exactly how Rawls felt.

"Come with me, I have something to show you. I promise it doesn't end with your death."

If that were any comfort, it would remain to be seen. None the less, he walked Rawls along the way back to the apartment he and Mara resided in. Along the way, he was thankfully able to get a towel to clean himself off.
