Perhaps she had not been a senator for that long, but then again, Vorn had not been a senator at all, so perhaps she was ahead of him in that regard. It had been suggested to Vorn that he run for public office, at least when the Senate was still active, but he'd had no wish to aim higher in politics than where he was. Now, however, he was faced with an awkward decision, for he did not often go out of his way to converse about his own stature and wealth, but Ilanah had asked a question that he couldn't dance around; not without seeming rude, at least.

"Arkania is run by the Arkanian Dominion," he explained. "It is a corporate meritocracy; those who are the best sit at the top. Our capital is called Adascopolis. Named for the Adasca family, if that helps." He gave her a knowing look; his own last name descended from that family, which ought to give her an idea of exactly where and how he sat within the Dominion, in terms of governmental stature. "That aside, the position of Primarch is not a figurehead, though the Dominion can capably govern without me looking over its shoulder every minute of every day. I do have certain powers of state that most rulers do not have. For example, if we were to sign a formal alliance here, today, between our worlds, I would take my copy back to the Dominion and they would, by and large, accept it. Chandrila, however, would likely have to pass it through a multitude of channels."

"A multitude of channels is putting it lightly." She laughed.  "You should consider visiting Chandrila some time.  It really is quite beautiful.  It is quiet and relaxing.  I, personally, live out in the country and my nearest neighbor is at least fifteen kilometers away.  There are cities, of course, if that is your preference."  Ilanah said.  Sometimes she thought she would be wonderful as head of tourism, but she really did not want a regular job, nor did she need it.

"The Captain is actually Chandrilian, as well."  She said, nodding in the direction of Clive Lennox.  "I had never met him until this evening, likely because he was in Academy when I was in University, so there was no way our paths would have crossed."  She explained.  She was fairly sure that most of the Imperial officers had attended some academy from a very young age.  She herself started university at sixteen, studying art and literature at first, though she ended up majoring in political science.

"His fiancee, however...."  Ilanah smiled.  There had been gossip she had heard, not that she enjoyed it.  "Is a bit of a socialite.  Whoever can give her the most is who she gravitates to."

Maybe it had been the cocktails he'd had one too many of. Maybe it was because a vastly-superior officer had given him a direct, if facetious order. Or maybe it was simply that he was tired of seeing Mao Winters with his hands on his fiancée. But after considering it for a good, long moment—still probably not quite long enough, however—Lennox decided to assert himself for a change. When he wasn't taking orders in the Navy, he was taking them from Violet at home. Well, he decided, he was done taking orders. (The irony of Blackwood having ordered him to stand up for himself didn't occur to him in that moment).

The Admiral had taken him by surprise, and he was relieved that his appearance passed muster despite the stain from Ilanah's drink on his uniform. Still surprised, nervous, and just beginning to feel the effects of the cocktails, Lennox could do little else but nod in agreement with the man 19 years his senior. "Sir! Yes, Sir!" he said, offering a crisp salute before turning on his heel and making his way in the direction of Violet and Mao. He made sure to intercept a waiter on the way, fortifying himself with a hastily thrown-back cocktail.

"Oh Clive, dear," Violet said to him as he approached. "I'd like you meet Mao Winters."

"Put her there, Clive," the actor said, extending his hand to shake. The Force only knew where it had been. "Violet and I were just talking about how fun it would be to 'ride along' on your Star Destroyer. You know, to research my upcoming role in—"

Clive shoved his empty glass into the man's outstretched hand, slipped his hand around Violet's waist, and kissed her passionately. Other guests looked disapprovingly out of the corner of their eyes as the kiss went on for several moments before Violet, flustered, managed to pry herself free without making a scene. For perhaps the first time ever, she was at a loss for words. Clive locked his arm around hers and began to lead her away, but not before reaching into his pocket, pulling out a single credit, and dropping it into the empty glass in Mao's still-outstretched hand as the actor blinked his eyes like an admonished school boy. "For your trouble," he remarked.

By the time they neared the door, Violet had found her voice again. Her face had gone from being red from embarrassment to red with anger. "What's gotten into you, Clive?" she said, pulling her arm free and crossing both of them across her chest in that interrogative pose of hers.

"Corellian rum, triple sec, twist of muja fruit, and some self-respect."

"Of course you've been drinking," Violet rolled her eyes.

"Come on, we're leaving."

"No, Clive. You were very rude to Mao. I need to apologize to him."

"I didn't know you were on a first name basis with Darth Groper over there."

"Don't be jealous, Clive. It's not attractive," she added, making sure not a single hair was out of place as she composed herself to return to the party. "And neither is your uniform now that you've spilled your drink all over it."

"That..." he started to protest, but she was already gone. "... wasn't me." He looked around, finding a few eyes trained unfavorably on him, and seeing Ilanah and the Arkanian going pleasantly about their conversation across the room, and he turned and stomped out the door.

Vorn, still watching the captain, applauded the man's actions as he swept his woman away from Winters, even if it was a public display and possibly frowned upon. It was good to see that the man had a good stretch of backbone, though Vorn was tempted to second guess that after seeing what followed. While he could not hear the conversation between Lennox and Violet, the faces spoke for themselves. Lennox was upset, perhaps a bit tipsy and then... well, he was gone. "A shame," Vorn commented to Ilanah. "I was rather looking forward to him returning to our company. At least Winters was shown the error of his ways." A small shrug, for no doubt, Winters would be back at it again in no time flat. It was just a question of which woman he would grope next. Ilanah again? Perhaps the other holostar, the Stark woman? Or would he go to pester the admiral?

"I would not quite know what to make of such open greenery," he admitted to Ilanah. "Many of our cities are underground, beneath the ice. Beautiful, in their own way, yes, but still enclosed. I am far used to the bustle of cities and efficient work than I am to nature." It was a byproduct of his upbringing. Granted, he'd seen his share of worlds, largely slave pits and the worst places, but that was his own little secret. Some things were better left unsaid, after all.

"I would have liked that also."  Ilanah admitted, regarding the Captain.  Of course, it was mainly because he was Chandrilian, and she felt incredibly comfortable with those from her home planet.  Although, she was comfortable with Vorn, as evident by their conversation so far.  She did suppose that she should have reigned in her date by now, but she had neither the inclination or desire to do so.  If anyone could have done it, she was sure that she could.

When Ilanah looked back over to where Mao, Violet, and the Starks had been talking, she noticed that Mao was gone.  She gave the room a quick scan and did not see him anywhere for the moment, which she shrugged off, and she turned her attention back to the Arkanian.

"But since it appears he is not, I suppose that you are stuck with me.  I hope that it is not too much of a burden to bear."  She said, as she finished her drink.  "Of course, I should stop monopolizing your time and let you mingle."  Ilanah said as she sat the empty glass on the smooth obsidian tabletop and she stood, before she smoothed her form-fitting gold dress over her hips.

"I'm not a fan of mingling," Vorn said, his voice full of dry amusement. "But your presence is not an issue, either. I had not intended to remain here this long; such events are where I show my face, make a few business deals and then depart with all haste. However, your presence has been pleasant." It was unexpected to find enjoyment in conversing with a human female. Nonetheless, he and the former Senator had enough in common that it made the conversation go smoothly and without running out of topics.

"So tell me, Ilanah, what are your plans for the next few days? It seems you have no date. Perhaps we could see one another over lunch?"

She settled back down into her seat and looked to the Arkanian again.  His lack of colored irises did not bother her at all, nor was he unsettling to her in any way. It was odd, she felt, for someone as pro-imperial as her, to feel as such. Again, she leaned back into her seat and crossed her legs before she pushed her blond locks back from her face with her fingertips.

"As I said earlier, I was supposed to return home in the morning, unless plans changed. It appears something has come up, however...."she said, referring to him and his lunch invitation. "So I have no plans as of yet." The former senator gave him another smile. It would not hurt to stay on Imperial Center a few more days, anyway. There was nothing she needed to do on Chandrila, at present, not for the moment anyway.

It was pleasant, or at least as pleasant as Vorn could imagine, to find likable company among a pro-Imperial faction. Granted, Ilanah was limited in her way in the male-centric society of the Empire, and while Vorn did hold a position of power and wealth, he was still a near-human; his usefulness to the Empire, though, outweighed that particular stigma more often than not. For the most part, Vorn cared little for such thoughts. His world provided needed services and he himself was at the pinnacle.

"Then lunch it shall be, on the morrow," he agreed, settling back into his chair and clasping his hands before himself. "However, I am beginning to feel that this soiree may have played itself out. I shall be departing soon, myself. Is there somewhere I can take you to, if you wish to be conveyed? Your protective detail is more than welcome to come along; my repulsor-limo has more than enough room."

"Seeing as how my protective detail is, essentially, you..." She teased, reminding him of their earlier conversation wherein she told him that her man had the night off. "My hotel is not far from here.  I am sure that I can find my way there easily." Whether is be a taxi, or walking, as her date seemed to have disappeared somewhere, not that she lamented that fact.

Idly, she checked the beautiful and delicate silver chrono that circled her wrist.  It was late, which she had not realized due to the pleasant company of both Vorn and the now absent Captain. Ilanah snapped her clutch open and pulled out a plasticine business card, then wrote an address on the back of the uniquely transparent card. "This is the hotel Where I am staying." She started, as she wrote the name down in her elegant handwriting. The card itself was hers, for the Renea Ilyone school for girls. "Shall we say about mid-day, tomorrow?" Truthfully, she looked forward to it, and offered him the card after she stood from her seat.

"If you wish," Vorn said companionably. "I only offer because the walkways of Coruscant can be dangerous at night, even at these upper levels. Granted, it is not the same as the lower levels, but a lone woman at night, unarmed, can become easy prey." Vorn knew all too well the dangers of Coruscant; in some ways, it had become his stomping grounds for hunting even more than Arkania had once been. Accepting the card graciously, he gave it a cursory examination before slipping it into his pocket.

"That is more than sufficient. Mid-day works for me quite fine." Pushing back from the table, he rose, then offered her a brief bow. "Until the morrow then, Ilanah."
